Where to stay in Corsica
Arriving to Corsica by ferry is a great experience. Many moons ago, I went on the ferry from Livorno in Italy to Bastia in Corsica and from there on a bus to Calvi over the mountains. I still remember the lovely smell of lavender sneaking in to the bus through the open windows welcomming me to this beautiful Mediterranean island.

Calvi | Northwest coast of Corsica
Calvi is situated on the northwest coast of Corsica. It has got georgeous white beaches and a crescent-shaped bay. Above the marina you will find a medieval citadel, and the town itself is charming and pitoresque with cobblestoned alleyways - sizzling with life in the summer. The Quai Landry esplanade is lined with tempting restaurants and cafés, where you can spoil your tastebuds and listen to the waves' gentle slap against the moored luxury yachts...and of course do some people watching, while you contemplate life.
Besides from beach life and water sports activities like windsurfing, kayaking, scuba diving and sailing you can take the shaky train ride from Calvi along the coast to the charming village of Algajola approximately 25 minutes away. The train ride alone is worth the trip - just for the views. If you stay on the train for another 20 minutes, you will arrive to the picturesque town of L’Ile Rousse, where it is well worth spending some hours.

The daily life takes place at a slower pace in laid back L'lle Rousse, so enjoy a pleasant stay in this seaside town. Enjoy an icecream and a coffee on Place Paoli - the town square and watch the locals play pétanque or take a stroll through the old town with streets named after Napoleon and Pascal Paoli
You are never far away from a wonderful beach and L'lle Rousse has one of the warmest microclimates in Corsica, due to the Balagne hills that surround and shelter the town, so this small paradise is the perfect spot for a family holiday.

Porto Vecchio | St-Tropez" of Corsica
Porto-Vecchio has developed into the meeting place for fashionistas and the party capital of Corsica in recent years. You will find trendy shops in the old town, which are open until midnight in the high season, selling clothes, souvenirs and local products from the island.
The narrow streets around Republic Square (the town square), in front of the Saint-Jean-Baptiste church, are packed with wine bars, restaurants and dancing venues with DJs, so you can dance the night away, should you so wish.
You can always catch up on your sleep with a nap on the beach next day, and Porto Vecchio has world famous beaches like Palombaggia and Santa Guilia with white sand and glittering turquoise shallow water.
Don't miss the backcountry in the nearby mountainous Alta Rocca region offering gorges, rivers and waterfalls. If you are up for it, this is the place to do mountain walking, rock climbing, horse riding or quad biking - and why not visit a Corsican mountain village for a bite to eat and enjoy a siesta in the shade.
